When was the last time you sucked at something?
In my case, it was 20 hours ago when dragged by a friend I attended a tap dance class. Yes you read that right, the one with the noisy shoes that require insanely amounts of coordination. There I was, a full grown up woman (north of 40…ahhh!) trying to keep up with the instructions, the music and making sure I did not mess up, because when you do your shoes tell on you! It was the first time in a while I was out of my comfort zone. My mind challenged by a new situation was full on: “why am I doing this?”, “I’d rather be doing a workout” (of course, that is what I do everyday!), “I’m too old for this”, you get the idea. And then I tried to silence the mean voice and approach this whole thing with a beginners mind, letting the curiosity and the fun take over. Soon enough, there was a lightness to it that I have not felt in a while. I reconnected with my goofy side and my love for dance, while welcoming the mental challenge of coordination (it works wonders for brain health after all!).
I tend to take myself too seriously with a side of perfectionism drilled on me during my corporate years, so enjoying a new activity, moving my body in different ways, listening to good music is actually a great idea. Even better with friends! Yes, I am dragging another friend into this! - hold on this sounds like a pyramid scheme? :)
What is one thing you’d like to suck at?
